The best way to deal with change is to adapt, right? Wasn't that the whole basis of the runaway bestseller of the late 90's and early 00's, Who Moved My Cheese? Accept change with a huge smile and a confident, "yes sir". After all, that's the stuff model employees are made of.... Is it not? I've read that book several times over the years, and always thought to myself, When change happens I will just roll with it..... But the truth is, that's not how I feel at this moment about a big change that has happened to me. My company just went through a major reorganization and, unfortunately, many lost their jobs. Now my job was safe.... but the changes that were made to it kinda turned my world upside down. I now have a territory that I have to drive over an hour just to get into and my furthest points are over 5 hours away. A big difference from living in the middle of my territory and the furthest reaches being just over an hour away. On one hand I feel extremely grateful to still have a job... on the other hand, part of me is stomping my feet with my arms crossed and saying "not fair" like a pouting 5 year old. One of the reasons I came to this company was so I could be home every night. With a territory that big I'm going to have to do some overnights. Now throw a little baby into the mix and you can see where I feel torn. This is a change I'm fighting... I can't "just roll" with this one....
To the company's credit, after yours truly made repeated phone calls to the powers-that-be (I'm kinda good at being the "squeaky wheel"....), they are going to do everything they can to adjust this new territory and make it similar to what I had before. I'm stuck with this new territory till the first of the year, but after the New Year they may be able to make adjustments so there is more of a work/family balance.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, on the bright side, this "new territory" of yours technically is only in theory so far since you are on maternity leave as of now and probably through the first of the year. Let's hope they pull some strings for you. And keep in mind that since I work nights, if you ever need a babysitter last minute, just call. Kind of a drive but I'm a willing sitter none the less in a pinch!
